Downtown Portland, OR - Departure 5.19.18
While the children are away the adults will play. After some live music we had dinner at Departure in Downtown Portland.
An elevator buzzed us to the top of the landmark Meier & Frank Building making us feel like VIPs. We made reservations, but were a little early. They had no problem accommodating us and we had an amazing table outside looking out over the city.
The inside restaurant was cooly lit with a young, vibrant buzz. Outside was a little more relaxed with tables overviewing the beautiful city of Portland and the river. Families, couples and work groups were seated throughout the terrace.
We always order plates to share so we can sample more foods and truly get to taste the masterpieces of the chef. Our favorite of the night was by far the Anago-beef roll (pictured above, sorry it was half eaten by the time I remembered to click a picture). I have to admit that we didn't love all the dishes and the server asked for our feedback. We don't like to complain, but we were so blown away at the first two dishes that I couldn't help give the feedback that the last two were a disappointment. Gracefully the server apologized and removed them for our final bill. That was completely not our intention other than to provide feedback. We were blown away by their compassion and service. Overall the entire staff was fantastic and provided a great environment and experience.
