Lesson #9 - Rice Krispie Treats with Gamma
Over spring Break we visited Gamma and PopPop in Florida. In between jumps in the pool, bouncy ball racing and iguana chasing, Tiny got to spend time with his Gamma in the kitchen.
All set with Kellogg’s Rice Krispies, Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows and butter they set out on a cooking lesson.
Prep Time: 10 min
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 12
Ingredients:
- 6 cups Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal
- 3 Tablespoons
- 1 package (10 oz., about 40) JET-PUFFED Marshmallows
STEP ONE:
Eat a marshmallow to make sure they taste ok for the recipe
STEP TWO:
Measure the Rice Krispies
STEP THREE:
Melt the marshmallows and butter. Remember to constantly stir in order to mix the ingredients together so the marshmallows don't brown. Make sure they are completely melted before going on to the next step.
STEP FOUR:
Next pour the Rice Krispies into the gooey mess.
Don’t be afraid if you lose some over the edge – creating is way more fun and a mess can always be cleaned up.
STEP FIVE:
Once all of them have made it into the pot, stir it all up.
It will get difficult for smaller kids towards the end so don’t be afraid to jump in and lend a hand.
STEP SIX:
At this point you will have a ginormous looking treat in the pot. Take this and pour it into the baking pan and spread it out.
The little ones will need help holding the pot up as the contents are scooped out.
STEP SEVEN:
With their sleeves rolled up, using their hands, have them spread the mixture throughout the pan until it is as flat as possible. It will still be warm so let it sit to harden.
After a quick swim in the pool the treats should be all set to go and gobbled up.

Other ideas: add food coloring to the marshmallows to give them a different color, add candy or drizzle with melted chocolate over top prior to cutting or create them into fun shapes.
