Lesson #8 - St. Patrick's Day Green Donuts
We always try to do something fun on the different holidays. Today we pulled out the Babycakes Mini Donut maker to create delicious Cinnamon Sugar Mini Donuts.
Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 30-45 mins
Serving: 15-16 mini donuts
Ingredients
- 5 TBSP unsalted softened butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 & 1/2 cups flour
- Green food coloring
- 1/4 cup melted butter - topping
- 1/4 cup sugar - topping
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon - topping
PREHEAT OVEN TO 325 DEGREES
Before you start the steps plug in the mini donut pan and set aside until ready to use.
STEP ONE:
In the mixer blend together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. It will be slightly clumpy so don't worry. Fluffy won't look like a cozy blanket on the couch.
STEP TWO:
Add the egg, milk and vanilla mixing them in until they are all combined.
Don't be afraid to let them crack the egg. They need to start somewhere and pieces can be picked out.
STEP THREE:
Add baking powder and flour just to combine. Be sure that you don't over mix the batter.
Finally add the food coloring to make it green. There is no measurement for this as it depends on how green you want your donuts.
STEP FOUR:
TASTE THE BATTER!
Disclaimer: There is raw egg in the mixture so use your discretion. Sawyer without a doubt tastes everything he makes so we let him explore the flavors.
STEP FIVE:
Fill a zip lock bag with your green donut mixture and cut off the tip. Pipe into the the mini donut maker. This is tough to gauge and your little one will need some help. Each round of donuts should take approximately 4-5 minutes.
STEP SIX:
Melt the butter in one bowl and combine the cinnamon/sugar in another bowl. After the donuts have cooled enough to handle lightly dip each donut in the butter then cinnamon/sugar combination.
STEP SEVEN:
Taste your final product before you plate and serve!
We got a little wild with breakfast this morning as well! What do you do for St. Patrick's Day?
